Triathlon Complete

Posted by Katherine Weaver on

I completed my first triathlon on Sunday July 21, 2019. Here is the play-by-play of how the day went: I woke up at about 5am; got dressed; took my vitamins and a caffeine pill; grabbed a water bottle packed with ice, water, and a Nuun tablet; I also took a sharpie, my flip belt, and some race food. I had chosen to eat bulk natural food energy bars I bought at my local market. My goal was to complete the Sprint distance in under 2 hours. The race start is about 2 miles from my house, so I decided to...

Swim Sick?

Posted by Katherine Weaver on

My goggles came in the mail while I was out running last Thursday, so I decided my first swim should be on Friday. No cap, no swimskin, just goggles and what I normally swim in, i.e. swim shorts and a rash guard. I realized I didn't actually have a plan for my swim practice so I looked around and decided I should try this routine. I set out to swim 500 - 700 yards. So, I signed up for a Triathlon. I've only biked and swam for fun in the past. While both are good exercise, I've never done either as exercise. I'm definitely not at a competitive level, but I will be adding biking and swimming to my exercise routine to make sure that I complete the triathlon without dying. I signed up with a little more than 20 weeks until...

Yesterday's Run: (Emotional) Ups and (Physical) Downs

Posted by Katherine Weaver on

It was sunny and 48 F outside. I've been missing a lot of runs lately, and I wasn't going to let this one get away from me. I saw it was almost too late for me to run, I dropped everything, changed, did a 2 minute joint loosening warm up, and got outside. It wasn't too hot or too cold. It smelled nice. I felt good. I felt like I was keeping a decent pace, I was working on my posture, my lean, breathing through my nose as much as possible, belly breathing, and using my breath relax and control...

I hope I don't kick someone in the face

Posted by Katherine Weaver on

I signed up for my first triathlon today. I grew up riding my bike every day and swimming in Lake Erie all summer. I don't suppose that will help me much for the race, but I enjoyed those things about my childhood. I got my first road bike last July (2018) after
